Attn: Glassblowers
A personal message from Mark Black regarding the BoroImages™

Hello, I just wanted to let you what’s going on with this part of our site. Also, regarding glass trades.

As you've probably deduced by now, I’m a fellow lamper & brother of the craft. Like many of you, working with dichroic (specifically Dichroic Alchemy BoroImages and BoroCoatings) has had a proufound effect on my flamework endeavors.

Before Jay turned me on to his revolutionary line of Dichroic Alchemy products I was doing some of the most exploitive types of production work, ie: long days of heavy fuming / large heat intensive projects which resulted in frequent back & shoulder pains, and sporting a perpetual torchburn on my hands, forearms & face (not cool). For the record: I have the utmost respect for those of you who are all about “going big” you’re definitely hardcore in my book!

In any case, Dichroic Alchemy has truly changed my life for the better. I love working with these products & endorse them wholeheartedly! My only regret is that I’d initially got ahold of some substandard dichroic images (from another company) earlier on in my career, burned them up & became frustrated and disillusioned with dichroic in general. Talk about stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime! Another perfect example of the old adage; “the high cost of a low price” would be those bags of dichroic swag on eBay. When they first started dumping that stuff I had the brilliant idea to buy up nearly $300. bucks worth. DOH! I guess the only good that came of that fiasco was that a real friend came to work in my studio & informed me that all dichro does not behave that way. In fact, he’s the person who introduced me to Jay Frodo & Dichroic Alchemy (thanks Griffin).

You may have noticed that our BoroImage sales page is kept pretty low profile on our website (there's only one small link, on our "Dichroic Image Selection" page). The reason being that I’m not particularly gung-ho about distributing glass supplies, or competing with others who are. Furthermore, I'd prefer not to have our retail customers see this (the non-glassblowers that is).

Ultimately, the #1 reason I’ve spent the time & effort putting these up on our website is because my personal stash normally consists of approx 5,000+ BoroImages! Yes, I'm an admitted glassoholic & torchmonger. So naturally, my friends & associates who visit the shop are often interested in buying some BoroImages or trading for finished product (which I’m totally down with).* Thus, having the BoroImages available online greatly simplifies our subsequent dealings with the aforementioned (long distance) trading partners after they've visited our studio.

*Wanna trade? Don't be shy. It's quite possible that I'd be interested to acquire some of your glass. Who knows... as long as our website customers are stoked on your creations, this could even develop into a regular account for you.

Previously, we've tried using an elaborate multi-tiered discount schedule, but for the sake of keeping it simple here’s the deal: Size “A“ (½’x ½”) BoroImages = $1.95 each to the general public, or $1.50 ea. for registered wholesale accounts.
Click Here to register a wholesale acct.

For the timid consumer or someone who just needs one particular image, the first option may suit your needs as I generally tend to have a pretty good selection (also, there’s usually a bunch of brand new, discontinued or unlisted images, so give me a call & I’ll be glad tell you what those are). Wholesale buyers also enjoy shopping here, particularly if you need less than 16 of each image.

If you’re a wholesale buyer looking to purchase 450* images or more, I recommend getting them directly from Dichroic Alchemy. *(that’s their minimum order for a whsl. sheet of BoroImages). Jay Frodo & Co. are awesome people to work with and they’ll always take good care of you. Buying factory direct just means that your images will be made-to-order / etched in strips of 16 minimum each image (which works out to be 28 designs per sheet of A size images) and the turnaround time is usually within two weeks or better. Plus, they can offer special sales & seasonal promotions which we of course cannot, without taking a loss.

Therefore, the primary benefit I can offer my friends & associates is greater assortability by virtue of my own substantial investment. Well, that and immediate shipping, simply because I already have the premade BoroImages on-hand.

Regarding wholesale orders, here's the scoop: Dichroic Alchemy is extremely protective of this market, for which we should all be grateful. Otherwise, you'd see the finished products coming straight out of China. By the same token, Jay doesn't want us selling one or two BoroImages at his sheet price (which works out to be approx. $1.50 per image)...at least this is my agreement with him, which of course I shall honor because he's done more for me than anyone else in the industry.

Frankly, with a virtually insurmountable volume of purchase orders for my own finished products, I have very little motivation to play middle man or try turning these raw materials into a profit center. Hence, the somewhat obscure inventory page. **edit** Ok, I just did a few searches & our BoroImage page is everywhere on the web! No wonder you guys keep plundering my stash. LOL

For the time being, everyone is welcome to partake of my not-so-private reserve. ; ) We use a dynamic inventory control, so baring any unforeseen inventory errors everything you see here is in stock & ready to ship today. Shipping & handling is FREE via 1st class Mail. Otherwise, you can add Priority or Express mail upgrade at checkout.

Oh, just one more thing... for some reason I get a constant stream of email inquiries asking if these are coe 90. Folks, I work exclusively with borosilicate glass a.k.a boro / coe 33. Hence, the name: *Boro*Images. Sorry if that comes off as being sarcastic.
I just don't know how I can possibly state this any more clearly.

Well, that’s about it. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. I sincerely wish you the best of luck in all your flamework endeavors. Work safe and please, pay attention to your posture at all times. I kid you not... a healthy spine is priceless (anyone who's abused theirs will understand what I'm talking about).

peace ~Mark Black 1-866-420-GLAS
